CARRABSSETT VALLEY – Steve Ransom of Durham, N.H., won the overall Ironman title in the Carrabassett Valley Academy Triathlon Sunday. Shelley Koenig of Wyman, won the Ironwomen Division. The Big Dog Fund-raising Award went to Sam Mercer of Pacific Palisades, Ca.

The triathlon consisted of a 12-mile bike ride, a 2-mile watercraft trip, and a 5-mile run on the Carriage Road.

CVA Headmaster John Ritzo said, “I want to give special thanks to the Penobscot Indian Tribe and the town of Carrabassett Valley for allowing us to hold this fund-raising event on their land.” Proceeds from the triathlon are earmarked for upgrading of the school’s fleet of buses and vans.
