CHICAGO – Chien-Ming Wang allowed six hits and a run over seven innings and Hideki Matsui drove in four runs Wednesday night as the New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 8-1 to gain a split in their day-night doubleheader.

Wang (2-3) beat Jose Contreras (3-4), who gave up five hits and four runs – two earned – in 6 2-3 innings on a 46-degree night at U.S. Cellular Field.

In the first game, Chicago rookie lefty John Danks worked out of a couple of tight jams and outpitched veteran Mike Mussina to give the White Sox a 5-3 victory.

The second game was delayed at the start for one hour, 15 minutes by rain. In the opener, Danks (2-4) struck out a career-high seven in 6 1-3 innings.

Devil Rays 11, Rangers 8

KISSIMMEE, Fla.- Carl Crawford tripled with the bases loaded and Delmon Young also drove in three runs Wednesday night to lead the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to an 11-8 victory over the Texas Rangers at Disney World.

Sammy Sosa moved closer to becoming the fifth player with 600 career homers, hitting No. 597 in the fourth inning for the Rangers, who led 6-4 before the Devil Rays scored six runs in the fifth – the last three on Crawford’s third triple of the season.

Indians 7, Twins 1

CLEVELAND – C.C. Sabathia pitched eight sharp innings and Trot Nixon drove in three runs to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Sabathia (6-1) allowed five hits, struck out five, walked one and hit a batter. Minnesota’s only run came on Nick Punto’s single in the second. The left-hander won his first five decisions before allowing six runs in a loss to Oakland on May 11.

Nixon drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the fifth and added a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Marlins 4, Pirates 3

PITTSBURGH – Josh Willingham and Miguel Cabrera doubled in runs during Florida’s eighth-inning rally, and the Marlins won for the second night in a row after losing four straight by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 .

Astros 2, Giants 1

HOUSTON – Rookie Hunter Pence homered for the second straight game and the Houston Astros beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1.

Rockies 5, Diamondbacks 3

DENVER – Brad Hawpe homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Aaron Cook and the Colorado Rockies past the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3.

Phillies 6, Brewers 2

PHILADELPHIA – Cole Hamels retired his first 18 batters and used one of baseball’s best changeups to strike out 11 in his 32nd career start, leading the Phillies to a 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
