AUBURN – The Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra, under the direction of Paul Ross, will embark on a musical voyage Thursday, May 24, at High Street Congregational Church.

Starting in Spain with “Espana,” by Chabrier, the program will continue to Austria with Rebecca Grube, a senior at Lewiston High School, performing as soloist in the first movement of the Violin Concerto #5 by Mozart.

Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” requires four percussionists. Timpanist Michael Giroux will be joined by Bruce Condit, Brian Hodges and Laurie Swart who will play a variety of percussion instruments rarely heard in a symphony orchestra.

The musical travels will end in France with L’Arlesienne Suite #2, by Bizet, featuring Mellori Worthen on harp and Blaise Spath on saxophone.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $6, may be purchased at the door. Students admitted free. For more information, call 346-3106 or 795-6921.
