CANTON – The Volunteer Fire Department will host its sixth annual Canton Summer Fest on Saturday, June 9, at the Canton Municipal Building and in the ball field across the street.

The event will feature an auto show, including 20 categories including motorcycles. Registration fee for the car show is $5 for car, driver and one passenger. Trophies for the top three in each class will be awarded. The auto show will go on rain or shine.

Other events include a bike parade, child identification program, food, refreshments, games, moon bounce, dunk tank, women’s and girls frying pan throwing contest, adult husband-and-wife wheelbarrow race and chicken barbecue at noon in front of the municipal building hosted by the Whitney Masonic Lodge 167. Cost is $5 per meal.

The “Canton Jail” will be open to accept prisoners.

Music for the event will be provided by a disc jockey. Admission to the ball field is $3 for adults to age 12, and ages 11 to 6 are $1 and under 5 are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Profits will go toward the town’s rescue sled equipment account.

The department is looking for crafters and more for its flea market/craft fair being held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the municipal building. Tables are available to rent for $10 and $15.
