RANGELEY – The Board of Selectmen this week approved changing the name of Hangar Road at the airport to the Lt. Cmdr. Neil B. Taylor Memorial Drive in honor of a local man reported missing in action during the Vietnam War, Town Manager Perry Ellsworth said.
Born in 1940, Taylor was in the Navy and was reported lost in 1965 in South Vietnam as listed on the Maine POW/MIA Web site.
During the meeting, Town Clerk Laura Haley gave a presentation on vendor license and renewals and new information. The license structure and fees are being changed, he said.
The board also discussed the fact, he said, that Rangeley Plantation does not register vehicles or license ATVs, boats, or provide fishing and hunting licenses. The selectmen directed the town manager to write a letter stating that as of May 23 the town will no longer do these unless the Rangeley Plantation assessors meet with selectmen to discuss the situation.
The new books on the town’s 150-year celebration, held two years ago, were passed out at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting this week. The books are on sale at the public library and at the historical society, he said.
The board was advised that in June, the Maine Department of Transportation will survey the road between Rangeley and Oquossoc for driveway entrances and speed limits.
The board also discussed appointing a committee to look at refurbishing an old town clock formerly located in the grade school at the current location of the town office. The committee, he said, would look at what the cost would be, where the clock would go and how to fund the project.
The board continued working on the town warrant and will look at the first draft next Tuesday. The town warrant will be completed by May 29 for the June 14 town meeting, he said.
A public hearing for renewal of special amusement license renewals and liquor licenses was also held.
