Auburn – Irene E. Spencer, 82, of Lewiston, died Friday, May 18, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin.

Born in Gardiner on Nov. 6, 1924, the daughter of Burton and Ruth (Praught) Jones, she was a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington.

She was a housewife and third-grade teacher at the former Frye School.

She was the wife of Charles W. Spencer Jr., who died this past March 12.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, card playing, summers at Keoka, winters at Vero Beach, Fla., and visiting family and friends.

She is survived by five sons, Thomas Harrison and his wife, Eileen, of Mechanic Falls, Alan Spencer of Lewiston, James Spencer and his companion, Angela, of Sabattus, Peter Spencer and his companion, Laurie, of Auburn, Charles Spencer III and his companion, Michelle, of Lewiston; three daughters Patricia Clayton and her husband, Kenneth, of Cartersville, Ga., Susan Parlin and her husband, Richard, of Greene, and Nancy Turner and her husband, Thomas, of Lewiston; one sister, Constance Heath of Miami, Fla., 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Burton Jones; four sisters, Mary Jones, Laura Webster, Priscilla Lavallee and Patricia Nash; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Morin) Spencer.
