WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — Two city firefighters remained hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday, a day after two fire trucks collided on the way to a call.
Capt. John Keane was listed in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. Joseph Fischetti was in critical but stable condition at Waterbury Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Both Keane and Fischetti were thrown from an engine truck when it collided with a ladder truck Saturday morning while responding to a kitchen fire at a private home. Keane suffered head and internal injuries, and Fischetti, who was driving the engine truck, sustained internal injuries, fire officials said.
Six other firefighters were injured, but they are expected to recover, authorities said. The engine truck was heading west on East Aurora Street and the ladder truck was traveling north on Route 73 when they collided at a high rate of speed.

Fire Chief Michael Maglione said an investigation will include a review of the trucks’ repair records.
Saturday’s fire started with food burning on a stove and was handled by other firefighters who responded to the incident, fire officials said.
