NORWAY – Fernando Navarro, M.D., of Western Maine Surgery and Stephens Memorial Hospital, has received his board certification in general surgery.

Physicians are able to practice without a board certification, however, it is a nationally recognized standard of achievement that most physicians work to acquire.

Navarro attended medical school at Escuela Comobiana de Medicina in Columbia, South America, finishing in 1996. From 1999-2001, he was a research fellow at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He then completed his internship in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center. His residency in general surgery was at Maine Medical Center from 2002-2006.

Dr. Navarro joined Dr. Robert K. Story Jr. and Dr. Ratnakar Andalkar to form Western Maine Surgery in 2006. Dr. Navarro lives in Norway with his wife and their daughter.
