JAY – A petition asking the Jay School Department to rehire an elementary music teacher is at Jo Hair Fashions on Main Street for people who want to sign it, said Marie Jones, a petition organizer.

Parents started passing a petition last week to rehire music teacher Katy Cloutier of Jay for the 2007-08 school year. Cloutier taught music at the Jay school for two years and decided to resign last month after she learned she would not receive a continuing contract.

Cloutier has already re-applied for the position for next school year.

School Superintendent Robert Wall said there will be two music positions open next year. Both are vacant at this time.

The positions will be advertised, he said.
