The new electric sign which has replaced the old “Keith’s” at The Nickel entrance is one of which is attracting a great deal of attention and which is a credit to Mr. Foster of the Lewiston and Auburn electric company who arranged it. The word “Nickel” is spelled with the electric lights, and a clockwork arrangement attached to it causes the lights to go out at regular intervals and then come on again a single letter at a time, first the N, then the I and so on until the whole word is ablaze again.

BERLIN, N.H. – Five to 8 inches of snow fell on the higher elevations in the Berlin area Tuesday morning. Joe Dodge of Pinkham Notch was quoted as saying the unusual snowstorm would extend the skiing season into the first week of June.

• The Twin Cities are jointly seeking bids for paper supplies, according to Auburn Purchasing Agent Jude G. Cyr. The city will require at least weekly deliveries throughout the one-year contract period, which will begin June 1, Cyr said, and both cities will order supplies as needed.

The cities will need an estimated 2,500 reams of 8½- by 11-inch white bond paper, 300 reams of 8½- by 11-inch colored bond paper and 300 reams of 8½- by 14-inch white bond paper.

• The first challenges are on for the Androscoggin Challenge Triathlon. Auburn City Building and Fire Department triathlon teams have challenged their counterparts in Lewiston to compete in the June 13 event, and triathlon officials hope businesses and organizations will follow suit.
