LEWISTON – Stella (Galarneau) Martel, 94, a resident of Lewiston, passed away Sunday, May 20, with family by her side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at Marshwood Health Care facility.
She was born in Lewiston, April 6, 1913, the daughter of Edouard and Rose Anna (Carrier) Galarneau. She attended Lewiston schools. She married Lucien A. Martel on June 29, 1935, and he predeceased her.
She was an accomplished seamstress and at one time operated a bridal and formal gown business out of her home.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church and a former member of the Ladies of St. Ann of St. Louis Church.
Survivors include her six children, Annette, and her husband, Leonard St. Pierre, of Kennebunk, Gerald, and his wife, Claudette Martel, of Lewiston, twin daughters, Pauline, and her husband, Richard McKeone, of Melbourne, Fla., and Paulette Martel of Lewiston, Donald, and his wife, Pauline Martel, of Lisbon Falls and Francis, and his wife, Denise Martel, of Rye, N.H.; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Carmel Vermette.
