AUBURN – Gertrude J. Hammond, 81, formerly of Lisbon Falls, died Wednesday, May 16, at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice House.
She was born in Durham June 4, 1925, the daughter of John P. and Mary Lymes Ruby Sr. She was educated in Lisbon Falls schools and attended Lisbon Falls High School.
She was employed for many years at the Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls and upon closing worked for Baxter Woolen Mill in Rochester, N.H., and later Hillcrest Mill in Lewiston and retired from Geiger Bros.
She was a member of S.S. Cyril and Methodius Church and also the American Legion Auxiliary Coombs Mountfort Post 158 in Lisbon since 1986. Among her interests were crocheting, embroidery and making gadgets.
She is survived by two sisters, Helen Barrett, and her husband, Bill, of Lisbon Falls and Madelyn Huston, and her husband, Carl, of Lisbon Falls; two brothers, Joseph Ruby of Massachusetts and Emile Ruby of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by six brothers; and four sisters.
