Five towns in the Oxford Hills area have announced parades to be held on Memorial Day.

The Norway parade will begin at 9 a.m. from Advertiser Square. It will proceed down Main Street and end at the Norway Veterans Memorial Park outside the Guy E. Rowe School. In the event of inclement weather, services will be held at the Stone-Smart American Legion Hall across Main Street from the park.

The parade will stop at Witherall Park on Main Street, where Stone-Smart auxiliary President Marilyn Jones will lay a wreath at the Civil War monument. The featured speaker at the event will be Arthur Gouin Jr., a member of the American Legion Post 82.

The Paris parade will begin at 11 a.m. in front of Ripley & Fletcher Co. and proceed to Riverside Cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, ceremonies will be held at the American Legion Hall.

The Memorial Day address for the Paris parade will be given by Dane Tripp, chief deputy of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Events in Oxford will begin with members of the Anderson-Staples American Legion Post 112 observing a ceremony, wreath laying, and prayer at 8 a.m. at the corner of Route 121 and Rayville Road in Otisfield.

The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Oxford Elementary School and proceed to the American Legion Hall at Route 121 and Skeetfield Road in Oxford. Stops along the way include ceremonies at the Pismo Pine and Congregational Church cemeteries and the scattering of flowers on the Little Androscoggin River by Girl and Brownie Scouts.

In the event of inclement weather, Oxford’s ceremonies will take place at the American Legion Hall.

Buckfield’s parade will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Municipal Center and proceed to the Damon Cemetery. The first stop will be at the Zadoc Long Free Library, where Paul Bernard, a member of the American Legion Post 111, will be the guest speaker. Other stops include a prayer at the veterans’ monument and the scattering of flowers on the Nezinscot River in memory of Navy veterans.

Marchers will be taken to the cemetery via bus, and the ceremonies there will take place at the grave site of the last veteran who died in the past year. No information was available on an alternative site in the event of inclement weather.

The parade in West Paris begins at 11 a.m. on Maple Street in front of the Finnish American Heritage Society hall and proceeds to the bridge at Main and High streets for a scattering of flowers before going to the cemetery on Main Street. The Memorial Day address will be presented by Pastor Lloyd Waterhouse at the cemetery. There will also be an observance at the veterans memorial at Maple and Main streets.

In the event of inclement weather, ceremonies will be held in the West Paris Grange Hall.
