OQUOSSOC – Five people won guns in a raffle drawing at the May meeting of the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association. Ron Nobbs won a 12-gauge pump; Jack Nutile, 20-gauge; Ryan Gagne, 270 with scope; Jay Kase, 20-gauge side by side; and Kirby semiautomatic.
There will be another raffle later in the year.
After a meal and short business meeting, members heard from Steve Philbrick, Franklin and Oxford counties representative on the Governor’s Advisory Council to Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Philbrick briefed the group on legislative discussions on opening some local Rangeley waters to limited October catch-and-release fishing and trapping-related issues. The group welcomed Sherry Oldham, a member of the Advisory Council who is planning to spend more time in Rangeley.
The association will host the Casting For Recovery Program, sponsored by Fly Fishing in Maine, on Saturday, June 9.
A dozen women will have the opportunity to fish local waters with professional guides and an evening meal.
The 11th season of the association’s junior guides’ program will begin on July 9 for youngsters ages 9 to 12. For more information, call 864-5647
Monthly membership meetings are held on the third Thursday at 5:30 p.m. beginning with a potluck supper. On June 21 the guest speakers will be from Mountain View Youth Development Center. The public is welcome.
