AUBURN – Eight area high school students, along with their parents, were honored recently by the Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. The annual presentation of Good Citizens Awards and Good Citizenship Medals was held at the Auburn Public Library.
The recipients were chosen by their fellow students and faculty for outstanding qualities in leadership, dependability, service, patriotism, honesty and courage. The Good Citizens were presented pins and certificates and were eligible to compete for a scholarship presented by the National Society, DAR.
The Patriotism Medal winners received engraved bronze medals, certificates and lapel pins.
“Billie” Wight and Mary Jane Densmore, chapter chairwoman, welcomed the guests, parents, principals and teachers. After a brief meeting led by Chapter Regent Carol MacNeill, Densmore presented the awards to the students’ parents, who presented them to their children.
The DAR Good Citizens are Cassandra Dillon of Buckfield Junior/Senior High School. Breanna Wing of Edward Little High School, Lindsey Pelletier of Leavitt Area High School and Desiree Wuthenow of Lewiston High School.
The National Defense Good Citizenship Medal Award winners are Brittany Brackett of Buckfield Junior/Senior High School, Rachelle Tupper of Edward Little High School, Chelsey Randall of Leavitt Area High School and Chantel McLellan of Lewiston High School.
The guest speaker was Charles Plummer, local historian. Dressed in period costume, he presented a program on George Washington, Martha and her son.
