LEWISTON – A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Stella G. Martel was held Friday morning, May 25, at Holy Cross Church, following prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home.
The Rev. Daniel Greenleaf celebrated the Mass and recited committal prayers at the interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
At the beginning of Mass, Stella’s six children placed the pall on the casket along with her crucifix and hand- quilted memento.
During Mass, readings were by Stella’s daughter-in-law, Claudette Martel, Stella’s son-in-law, Leonard St. Pierre and the Prayer of the Faithful was read by Stella’s daughter-in-law, Denise Martel.
The offertory was brought to the altar by Stella’s great-grandchildren, Renee and Nicole Meservier, as well as granddaughter, Lisa Avery.
Once at the altar they placed Stella’s hand-sewn tablecloth on the altar to celebrate the Eucharist.
Pallbearers were all grandchildren, Sue Meservier, Mark Martel, Gary McKeone, Meghan Martel, Rick Martel and Michelle Fine.
After committal prayers, the song “Mama” by Il Divo was played in honor of Stella.
A reception of fellowship was held after the services at Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston.
