AUGUSTA – The Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Activity will present its ninth annual Contest for Communities awards at a celebration from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the State House Hall of Flags. People and programs will be recognized for the role they play in supporting a healthy Maine through physical fitness and sports programs.
This year’s winners include:
Adult Award: “Fit for Life” program, Somerset Sports and Fitness, Skowhegan.
Special Populations Award: Third annual Latino Soccer Tournament through the Minority Health Program, city of Portland.
Youth-School Award: Implementation of the “Take Time!” program at the Hartland Consolidated School, Hartland.
Youth-Community Award: “Fit for Kids Program” through the Boothbay YMCA, St. Andrews Hospital and Healthcare Center and Dr. Steven Feder, Miles Medical Group Pediatrics, Boothbay Harbor.
Community Award: “Spring and Fall Walking Series” through MDI Hospital Wellness Programs, Bar Harbor.
Healthy Workplace Medium Business Award (tie): “Employee Health and Wellness” by SeaCoast Management Co., Topsham, and by Tom’s of Maine, Kennebunk.
Healthy Workplace Award Large Business Category: “WOW!” MaineHealth Works on Wellness by MaineHealth, Portland.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Improvement of the forest trails at Orono by the University of Maine and the Campus Recreation Department, Orono.
