MILFORD, N.H. (AP) – A man accused of assaulting two police officers was held on $300,000 bail on Tuesday.
Police said Christopher Dadley, 27, of Milford, assaulted officers in two towns over the weekend.
Amherst police said that on Saturday, Dadley punched an officer who stopped him on suspicion of drunken driving. Police said Dadley then took off and led officers on a chase to Milford.
Police said a Milford officer was stabbed in the arm with a knife when he tried taking Dadley into custody at an apartment complex. Milford Chief Fred Douglas said that Dadley also nearly injured another officer.
During the arraignment, defense attorney Bob Moses said that Dadley has been diagnosed as bipolar, and the incident was the result of unresolved mental health issues.
“It is sad, because this is a good young man who’s got some mental difficulties, and we’re going to be addressing those mental difficulties as soon as we can in the hope that we can at least get him back on track,” Moses said.
Moses said that he might argue whether Dadley is mentally competent if the case goes to trial.
