LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will hold a special meeting today to discuss fuel bids for heating and diesel fuel.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the town office.

Town Manager Martin Puckett said once Maine PowerOptions gives towns the bids on fuel, municipalities have 24 hours to decide if they want to accept those prices.

The town hopes to get three bid options each for the 17,000 gallons of heating fuel and the 11,000 gallons of diesel fuel it needs. The options are pre-buy, rack price plus market cost or a flat rate, he said.

Maine PowerOptions is an energy-purchasing consortium that serves as an aggregator for the state’s local governmental and nonprofit organizations, according to its Web site, www.mainepoweroptions.com.

Its group-purchasing programs are designed to increase the buying power of eligible towns and nonprofits for fuel oil and electricity.
