MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Police said that they found a woman passed out in her car in a store parking lot with her infant son on the floor, the motor running, and cocaine inside a prescription bottle made out for the 7-month old.
Investigators said that Jessica Wilson was parked in the lot of a T.J. Maxx last week when several people noticed she was unconscious and left the motor running.
“These witnesses were unable to wake the woman up, so they retrieved the child from the vehicle,” Sgt. Maureen Tessier said. “When police arrived, after some persistence, they were able to wake the woman up.”
Officers described the vehicle as being very messy, Tessier said. “There were shards of glass on the floor, possibly from broken crack pipes.”
Emergency crews told police that the child’s temperature was 102 degrees. Police said that the child later tested positive for cocaine in his urine.
Wilson was charged with drug possession, being a habitual offender and endangering the welfare of a child.
“The officer said that the internal temperature of the vehicle was significantly higher than it was outside, and it was a hot day,” Tessier said. “The vehicle was running and the air conditioner was running, but it was functioning improperly and was actually blowing hot air rather than cool air.”
Wilson was ordered held on $25,000 bail.
