WESTBROOK – Simonne Y. Mayernik, 92, passed away on May 29, at the Springbrook Nursing Care Facility.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1914, in Compton, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of Alfred and Emma Champagne Marcoux. She moved to Rumford at a young age and attended Rumford schools.

She worked at the Hotel Harris and Montgomery Wards in Rumford before moving to Bridgeport, Conn., where she was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft. She met and later married Ernest Mayernik on June 12, 1948.

They resided in Rumford for more than 50 years before moving to Portland in 2002. She was a devout catholic and a lifetime member of the Ladies of Saint Anne at St. John’s Church in Rumford. She enjoyed cards, beano, puzzles, shopping, gardening and arts and crafts. Most of all, she was a devoted mother and particularly enjoyed visits from her family.

She is survived by her children, Daniel J. Mayernik, and his wife, Juliette, of Augusta, George E. Mayernik, and his wife, Sylvia, of Derry, N.H., Gloria A. Mayernik of Portland; her only granddaughter, Miranda L. Mayernik of Hicksville, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ernest P. Mayernik.
