LEWISTON – Emile V. Bell, 90, of 320 Ferry Road, Lewiston, died Thursday, May 31, at his home.
He was born in Van Buren on Oct. 16, 1916, the son of Fred A. and Annie Madore Bell. At a young age, he moved with his family to Lewiston when his father started Bell Farms Inc., now in the third generation of ownership by the Bell family.
He was a hard worker, working the Bell Farms land in Lewiston, Auburn and Durham for 68 years and plowing the fields right up until he was 88-years-old. He enjoyed golfing and was a member at the Martindale Country Club.
Along with his love for skiing, he began the Bell Ski Area. He saw the farm on Ferry Road as more than just a workplace, and used its open fields and hills to create fun activities for his growing family and many friends.
A lifelong member of Holy Cross Parish, he was soft spoken with outstanding integrity. His friends were many and lifelong. More than anything else, he cherished the love of his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, the former Theresa Cyr of Lewiston; four daughters, Michelle Bell, Suzanne, and husband, Richard Dostie, Camille Bell, Bernadette, and husband, Andre Vallee; two sons, David of Auburn and Raymond and wife, Patricia, of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Shane Bell, and fiancé, Melissa Kimball of Lewiston, Lindsey Dostie of Lewiston, India Bell of Auburn, Maxemile Bell of Auburn and Chad Warner of Florida; a great-grandson, Ethan Emile Bell of Lewiston; a sister, Aline, and husband, Benny Violette, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Victor, Arthur, Herbert, Rita, Edna and Alfreda.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to the network of “family-friends” who helped support him during this last year of comfort care.
