FARMINGTON – Gloria Jalbert Callahan, 81, a lifelong resident of Farmington, died late Thursday, May 31, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was born and raised in Farmington, March 3, 1926, a daughter of David O. and Georgianna (Simard) Jalbert. She attended Farmington schools, graduating in 1944. On June 17, 1947, she married William Edward “Ed” Callahan in Farmington, where they made their home after his duty with the U.S. Marines.

She worked her entire life beginning at Magonis Soda Fountain, the Corn Cannery on the intervale, the A&P Meat Department and Rexalls. She later worked at Franklin Savings Bank in Farmington for more than 22 years which she did with a smile as a caring teller.

She could regularly been seen walking to and from work usually carrying a bag of groceries on her way home. If the load was too much to carry she’d have Bacon’s Taxi service deliver them to her home for her.

She was an avid Red Sox fan, never missing a game. Her favorite player was, Johnnie Damon until he went to the “dark” side. She enjoyed following high school basketball, University of Maine Women’s teams and the New England Patriots. She also enjoyed mystery novels which she exchanged regularly with her sister, Lorraine and daughter-in-law, Pixie. She loved to sit on her porch and watch the birds eat from her feeders. She will be forever remembered as a loving and caring woman. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Patty Bourget, and her husband, Bob, of Standish, Peggy Callahan of Wilton, Dan Callahan, and his wife, Pixie, of Farmington and Tim Callahan, and his wife, Andrea, of Farmington; a close and supportive sister, Lorraine Whittier of Farmington; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ed Oct. 5, 2002; siblings, Alice Breton, Louise Nadeau, Beatrice Robinson, Anne Garrish, Rene Jalbert, Roland “Jake” Jalbert, John Jalbert; and a daughter, Mary Callahan, who died at birth.
