RUMFORD – Robert M. “Gabby” Nadeau, 77, died Thursday, May 31, at his home after a long battle with lung disease. He resided on Oxford Avenue in Rumford.
He was born in Rumford, on Dec. 19, 1929, a son of the late Rosaire and Emmeretienne (Tremblay) Nadeau. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1956. He worked for Boise Cascade on No. 15 paper machine as a machine tender until his retirement in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church. He was a member of the Robert Shand Post 24 American Legion and Union Ste. John Baptiste. He was an avid skier and also loved to cook, read and watch sports.
He was married in Rumford on Feb. 13, 1954, to Yvonne M. Carrier who survives of Rumford.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Pache, and her husband, Mark, of Rumford; four sons, Michael Nadeau, and his wife, Carol, of Rumford, Bob Nadeau of California, and Richard and Mark Nadeau, of Lewiston; a sister, Beatrice Welding of Rumford; three granddaughters, Ashley Nadeau, Jocelyn Nadeau and Lindsay Nadeau.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Frances, Rosaire and Raymond; and two sisters, Gertrude Hargis and Eleanor Newman.
