BRUNSWICK – Amable A. Caron, 91, formerly of Lombard Street, Brunswick, died Friday, June 1, at Thornton Hall Assisted Living.

He was born in Cap St. Ignace, Quebec, Canada, on Feb. 4, 1916, a son of Wilfred and Marie Rose Fortin Caron.

He moved to Rhode Island in 1924 and to Brunswick in 1928.

On July 1, 1939, he married Vivian Ouellette at St. John the Baptist Church in Brunswick, where they continued to make their home.

He served as a sergeant in the 349th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Caron worked as a loom fixer at the Verney Mill until its closing in 1955. He then worked as a mechanic at Bisbee Motors, Hyde Windlass, J.W. Penny in Mechanic Falls, and in 1981, retired from Bath Iron Works as a machine shop mechanic.

He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, and was a member of the Third Order of Mary and Brunswick Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by two brothers, Conrad Caron of Worcester, Mass., and Fernand Caron of South Portland; two sisters, Rolande Lavoie and her husband, Raymond, of Brunswick, and Irene Fournier of Albion, R.I.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, who died Sept. 11, 2004; four brothers, Roland Caron, Adelard Caron, the Rev. Gerard Caron S.M., and J. Bertrand Caron; seven sisters, Irma McCarthy, Valeda Caron, Armandine Doyon, Marie Berube, Marie-Laure Fournier, Jeannette Painchaud and Simonne Deschenes.
