I attended the Oak Hill High School budget meeting on May 26. There were parents of high school students there, and I overheard one say “The school board let the old fogies have it, now we’ll wait till they get tired and leave, then we’ll let them have it.”

Well, they sure did.

On May 8, it was voted to cut the school budget. There were about 80 people there for that vote. The school board didn’t get what they wanted so they decided that another vote should be taken. I believe that if the vote had gone the way the school board wanted, no other vote would have been asked for.

I hope that, come Election Day, that the town’s old fogies, myself included, will remember who is on the Sabattus School Board: Robert Gayton, Gary Blais, Sheila Clifford, Joline Lacoste and Mark Fournier.

I’d like to know why it is that when people are elected to different positions, it seems that the majority of those people cannot accept voters’ wishes if in opposition to their own, and so there is a revote.

I’m starting to think that voting is useless. Officials will do what they want anyway.
