FARMINGTON – An antique car road rally will bring automobiles from the 1920s to the 1970s through Farmington for a lunch stop Thursday.
The 2007 Freedom Road Rally starts in Bennington, Vt., on Sunday and will travel to Bangor to visit the Cole Transportation Museum and then take Route 2 back through Farmington on its way to North Conway, N.H.
Organizer Chris Dorsey of Sidney, Ohio, said more than 60 participants will be visiting Farmington on Thursday, adding that they enjoy meeting people in each town and displaying their cars.
The rally, he said, includes more than 30 vehicles – everything from a 1925 Rickenbacher to a mid-1970 Cadillac. The rally takes the group over 1,000 miles of back roads throughout New England.
People from 20 states have signed up, with a collection of vehicles mainly from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, he said. Some are from the Northeast but he’s also expecting people from Arizona and Missouri.
The road trip takes seven days, concluding June 9, and will travel through Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine as drivers visit museums, historical landmarks and enjoy the scenery along the way, Dorsey said.
“We’ve worked hard to make this year the ideal car enthusiasts dream vacation,” he said.
