LEWISTON – Bertrand R. Grandmaison, 73, of 20 Perley St., Lewiston, died Saturday, June 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 5, 1934, the son of Willie J. and Annette M. Chamberland Grandmaison. Educated locally, he was married to the former Claudette Dupuis on Aug. 27, 1955.
He worked at various jobs over the years, including in the kitchen at the Pineland Center in New Gloucester, retiring as kitchen supervisor in 1996. He had a life-long love for athletics, in his youth he was on the all-state football team, for many years he coached youth baseball and hockey teams, and he remained an avid golfer right up to his death.
He loved camping with his family, and served as the master of ceremonies for events at the Hemlocks Campground in West Poland for more than 30 years. A member of St. Philip’s Parish, he was also a member of United Commercial Travelers, and was a past Grand Councilor of the Lewiston-Auburn chapter.
Survivors include his wife of Lewiston; five sons, Paul R. of Greene, John E., and wife, Wanda, of Auburn, David G., and wife, Janet, of Anson, Marc P., and wife, Sara, of Hawaii, and Michael R., and wife, Sandra, of Lewiston; a daughter, Paula Ann Moxcey, and husband, John, of Oxford; a brother, Fernand, and wife, Linda, of Greene; two sisters, Sister Mary Madeline of Waterville and Pauline Mandigo, and husband, Dale, of Cape Cod, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Aug. 14, 2006.
