LEWISTON – Carl L. Leiter, 67, a resident of Park Street, Livermore Falls, where he had been living for the past eight years with his son, Erick Leiter, and his wife, Sheri, and former resident of Ashland, Ohio, died unexpectedly early Sunday, June 3, at Central Maine Medical Center, where he had recently undergone heart surgery.

He was born June 24, 1939, in Ashland, Ohio, the son of Karl L. and Bertha Arlene (Hand) Leiter. He attended school in the Ashland school system. He married Mary Hamlin, they later divorced. He was a retired truck driver, working for various companies throughout the years, including his son’s Leiter Transportation of Livermore Falls.

He was a member of the AmVets in Bellville, Ohio, and Franklin County United Bikers of Maine and Hillside Sports Club in Jay. He was a devoted father and grandfather, he loved the time he spent with his family, watching his son and grandson race, singing and playing guitar with his son and other family members and friends.

He also was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed attending the yearly Hillside Sports Club summer party, riding his Harley, attending U.B.M. and other motorcycle events, but his dream was to ride together with all of his boys. Even though he had health issues, he made an effort to make his life worth living, enjoying the time he had with his family and friends over the past several years. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him, also by his devoted pet, Tasha.

He is survived by four sons, Kevin Leiter of Medina, Ohio, Erick Leiter of Livermore Falls, Carl D. Leiter of Branson, Mo., and Brian W. Leiter of Casselberry, Fla.; five daughters, Elizabeth Haver of Fairfield, Yvonne Mahoney of Lodi, Ohio, Tina Hunt of Casselberry, Fla., Tonjua Jones of Medina, Ohio, and Kristine Muhbach of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; 27 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his mother, Bertha A. Leiter.
