LEWISTON – Wendall L. Moore, 80, of Farmington, passed away on June 2, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in August 1926 in Starks, the son of Lester and Erma Moore. He grew up in Starks and went to Madison High School graduating in the class of 1944, where he also played football, but would have rather been home in the woods, fishing or playing his saxophone.

He was in the U.S. Army stationed in the Philippines. He married his wife Betty on July 7, 1946, in Madison. He lived in Farmington his entire adult life. He worked for Foster Manufacturing in Dryden as a printer for many years; he then went to work for the University of Maine in Farmington as a custodian for many years.

He was a shy person with a good sense of humor. He loved music, and jazz was his passion. He excelled while playing his saxophone on stage, playing in many bands including Tom Boudreau, Edison Keef, Jim Sutcliff, Jack Libby, Al Corey, along with many others in the Somerset and Franklin County areas.

He loved the Dead River area. He loved animals especially his dog ‘Buster’ and he enjoyed going to the Farmington Animal Shelter. He enjoyed skiing, crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting and spending time at his lot in Freeman before he sold it due to poor health. He also enjoyed tinkering on things, including building his own tractor and going on family picnics.

Besides his beloved wife, Betty, of 60 years of Farmington, survivors include three children, Laura Neil, and her husband, Collin, of Farmington, Steve, and his wife, Penny, of Temple and Kathryn Moore of Auburn; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by uncles, Lamont Moore, Wayne ‘Plummey’ Moore; and grandparents, Bert and Dora Moore of Starks.
