AUBURN – Mary Lewis hit an RBI triple and then came home on a wild throw in the sixth inning as St. Dom’s edged Hall-Dale 6-5 in a Western Class C softball preliminary-round game Tuesday.

Micaela Kelly went 2-for-3, and was key in moving players into scoring position to produce the necessary runs for the Saints’ triumph.

Hailey Longfellow hit a double and scored a run, while Meg Cousins went 3-for-3 for Hall-Dale (7-10).

St. Dom’s will play at Georges Valley on Thursday.

Jay 13, Old Orchard 5

JAY – Desiree Castonguay had a solid performance at the plate, smacking three doubles and recording five RBIs to pave the way for Jay in a 13-5 triumph over Old Orchard Beach in playoff softball action on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Tigers pitcher Alexii Smith struck out four batters and walked four batters, and was helped by a strong defense effort behind her. Smith also had a pair of hits and three RBIs to help her cause.

Brandi Markgren had a double for OOB.

Poland 6, Maranacook 2

READFIELD – Kristen Simpson scattered nine hits and had timely clutch pitching as Poland slipped to a 6-2 triumph over Maranacook in a rainy Western Class B preliminary-round game.

Courtney Gray got on base in the seventh inning, and then stole second, third, and home to score the final run of the contest. Gray also had a pair of hits for the Knights (7-10). Dani Belanger added an RBI single, while Kacie Ford scored a run in the win.

Katie Norwood and Sam Mitchell each hit two singles in the Black Bears (11-6).

Sacopee Valley 5, Dirigo 4

SOUTH HIRAM – Britni Murch played a solid game both in the field and at the plate to lead Sacopee Valley to a 5-4 victory over Dirigo in the Western Class C playoffs.

Murch had the only extra base hit of the game, an RBI double, in the first inning for the Hawks (10-6).

In the top of the seventh inning, Murch made a diving catch with the bases loaded to prevent Dirigo (7-9) from tying or taking the lead.

Sacopee Valley scored their runs, thanks in part, to wild pitches and a fielder’s choice.

Baseball

Old Town 5, EL 4

OLD TOWN – Adam Fournier blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and help Old Town rally to a 5-4 victory over Edward Little in the preliminary round of the Eastern Class A tournament.

Jason Smith walked, stole second and scored the game-winning run on a Lance Getchell single to right field. Tyler Honey hit a double for the Coyotes (11-6), and Jarrett Lukas gave up no walks en route to his fourth win of the season.

The Eddies (6-11) had a solid defensive effort by Mike Muise, who hit an RBI single in the fourth. Matt Meserve hit an RBI double in the fourth as well.

Jay 8, NYA 3

JAY – Rocky Desanctis hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to lead Jay to an 8-3 victory over NYA in a Western Class C baseball preliminary-round game Tuesday afternoon.

Desanctis recorded the win on the mound, while ending the day with a pair of hits. Nick Bourassa and Shane Lefevbre also had two hits for the Tigers (9-6).
