Dear Sun Spots; I have been reading your column and realized that maybe you could help me.

I would love to have a garden but I live in an apartment so it is not possible for me here. Do you have any idea where I might look for a farm that rents out a small family garden area for a season? I grew up in the country and miss having a garden. Thank you for any help you can give me. I can be reached at 852-1050. – Lisa Berube, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots checked in with Ari from the Lots to Gardens program, which offers gardening and nutrition programs that help people in the community grow their own food, learn to value fresh and local produce and learn to prepare nutritious meals. She had a lot of information that should get you watching those seedlings grow.

Ari notes that they have several garden spaces available. They are located at the Franklin Pasture (behind the Lewiston High School), and Blake and Knox streets. There is a $10 a season membership fee. The program helps participants with seeds and seedlings. They only ask that participants help weed, mulch and take care of the space during the growing season and then assist with putting the beds to rest in the winter.

For more information, contact Bridgette at 755-3110. Staff is also available at on Mondays at the Franklin Pastures from 4 to about 6 p.m. Bridgette will be available at the Blake Street space on Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. and Knox Street from 5 to 6 p.m. to help with any questions. Alternatively, you can call the Lots to Gardens number above and leave a message as staff tend to be in the gardens during the day. Someone will return your call.

Teenagers who are involved in Lots to Gardens youth training programs give a summer of service to others, receive job training and participate in empowering themselves and their community. Lots to Gardens is a Sisters of Charity Health System program.

In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots located several copies online. Check out www.amazon.com for one. In the meantime, it also appears you can order this online at www.kungfumovies.net or by mailing a check or money order to Eworld International P.O. Box 215, Cheltenham, MD 20623. Sun Spots would recommend you first contact the company prior to mailing or order.

Dear Sun Spots: My name is Jacques Rivard and I’m from New Brunswick, Canada. I’m looking for my great uncle Isidore Caron. I know he passed away but he had some children and I would like to try to get in touch with any living relatives of my uncle, who had moved to Lewiston in the 1920s. He was married to Philime Theriault in Drummond, New Brunswick, and moved to Lewiston. If anyone knows of any living relatives, please contact me by phone at 506-388-1447 or by e-mail at rivardj@nbnet.nb.ca. I am looking forward to hearing from any of you. – Jacques Rivard, Canada.

Dear Sun Spots: In your May 3 column you had a H. Jones of Wales, who requested a description of an Augusta newspaper of long ago called the Maine Farmer.

I wanted to forward to her that I personally own a copy of this newspaper dated April 12, 1900, published by the Maine Farmer Publishing Company. If H. Jones wants to view the newspaper, she can contact me at the Lisbon Historical Society Archives Museum at 18 School St., MTM Center, Lisbon Falls from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays. You will need to use the rear entry to visit the archive museum in rooms five and six. I can also be reached via phone at 353-8510. Alternatively, she can also write to me at P.O. Box 246, Lisbon Falls, ME 04252. – Dorothy S., Lisbon Falls.
