Delegates to attend Boys, Girls States

AUBURN – Four young people will attend Girls and Boys State during the week of June 17 to 22 representing Edward Little High School. The programs teach young people about the importance of getting involved in state and local government. The week-long activities include presentations by guest speakers, small group work and simulations. Tanya Gagne and Teresa Ranucci will attend Girls State. Gagne, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Boutot, has been active in sports at EL, playing field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. She has served on the youth court, has been class president and is one of two student representatives to the school board.

Ranucci, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ranucci, has served on the executive board of her class all three years. She has played field hockey all three years and will be a co-captain in the fall. She also has been on the cross country ski team and the girls track team, where she race-walks. She has been active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs for the past two years.

Zachary Dumont and Christopher MaWhinney will attend Boys State. Dumont, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rene Dumont, has been on the executive board of his class all three years. He has also been a member of the soccer team all of his years at EL and played baseball for the school. He has been part of the American Legion baseball program for three years. This past year he was part of the kickoff mentor program where upper classmen are matched with the freshmen as mentors.

MaWhinney, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan MaWhinney, is the president of his class. He had served as vice president for two years. Active in sports, he has run cross country, skied for the Nordic team and played tennis. This year he served as captain of the tennis team. He has been a mentor in the school’s kickoff program for freshmen. He is also the photography and art editor of the school’s newspaper.

All four young people were recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Edward little High School.
