FARMINGTON – June is “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month,” and to celebrate, the Franklin County Animal Shelter is waiving the fee for adult cat adoptions for two weeks. Until Monday, June 18, there will be no charge to any eligible adopter who selects an adult cat from the shelter.

Every cat adopted is spayed or neutered; tested for feline AIDS and leukemia; checked and treated for fleas, ticks, ear mites and intestinal parasites; and vaccinated against rabies, distemper and upper respiratory infection.

Adopted animals also receive a certificate for a free wellness exam at one of the three veterinary clinics in Farmington. The normal fee for cat adoption is $65, but for two weeks adoptive families can take home an adult cat, complete with all veterinary services, free. Of course, donations are always appreciated.

The Franklin County Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization located at 550 Industry Road. There are more than 100 cats at the shelter, with many more in foster homes around the area.

All potential adopters of adult cats must go through the usual application process, but there will be no fee through June 18. For directions or other information, call the shelter at 778-2638 between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
