Subdivision roads

Issue: The town hires engineers, paid for by private developers, in order to make sure that new subdivision roads are constructed according to town specifications.

The scoop: Road Manager Arlan Saunders reported that the town’s contract engineer, Summit Engineering, has been notified that work is starting up on Pleasant Drive, the road developer Gary MacFarland is building for his Brighton Hill Acres subdivision. Summit Engineering also reports that work on the road serving the Verrill Homestead subdivision, off Grange Avenue, is continuing with no problems.

Work day

The scoop: Town Administrator Rhonda Irish reported that 10 people showed up June 2 to help the recreation committee on work in the new Minot Community Park. A bridge was built over a small stream and 90 percent of the walking trail buffer zones were marked off as were the road buffers.

Up next: The new soccer field is scheduled to open for this fall’s soccer season; however, major work on further development of the recreation area awaits a DEP site location permit. Irish reported she has sent what she hopes are the final reports, including one on the vernal pools, that the DEP needs before issuing the permit to continue development of the town’s 160 acre parcel.

Storm damage

The scoop: Road Manager Arlan Saunders reported that FEMA officials have acknowledged receipt of the town’s claims for damage caused by the Patriot’s Day storm. He said the town could expect a reimbursement check for about $50,000.
