WILTON – Two teens, one from Wilton and one from Farmington, have been charged with some of the recent 14 burglaries and thefts in Wilton, Jay, Farmington and New Sharon, police said Tuesday. More than $20,000 was taken from area businesses over the last six weeks.
Jay police charged the two males with four crimes in that town last week.
The break-ins were reported at LaFleur’s Restaurant on Route 4, Al’s Tire on Route 133, Steppin’ Out nightclub on Route 4, and Grondon’s Auto Body, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Some liquor was taken from Steppin’ Out and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from LaFleur’s Restaurant, he said. Nothing appeared to be taken from Al’s Tire or Grondon’s Auto Body.
After interviews by Jay police officer Stephen Wilkinson, the juveniles were charged with four counts of burglary and theft.
A third teen is also believed to have taken part in some of the burglaries. Two of the boys are 17 and the other is 15, Wilton officer Richard Caton IV said.
In Wilton, burglaries were reported at Firehouse Video, Sassy Scissors Salon, Eagles Sport Shop, the Boiler Room and twice at the Town Recreation Department shed.
Caton spotted a vehicle parked at Academy Hill School at 5 a.m. Saturday, he said. The young man inside was sleeping and a check of the car revealed a money bag and money box belonging to businesses in Jay and Farmington that had been burglarized, Caton said.
Burglaries were also reported at three Farmington businesses and the Sandy River Supply Store in New Sharon. Mostly money and liquor were taken, Caton said. Several items purchased with stolen money have been recovered, he said.
A stolen cash register from Sandy River Supply Store was also recovered by police.
