LEWISTON – Richard A. “Red” Meserve, 66, of Livermore Falls, died Tuesday, June 5, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Portland, the son of Albert L. and Lelia (Bisbee) Meserve. He graduated from Dixfield High School in 1958. Red served as a mortar man in the U.S. Marines from October 1958 to October 1961, spending time in Europe. Growing up in Canton, he was active in woodworking and in 4-H.

He was employed for many years in a variety of local shoe shops, for several logging companies as a woodsman and pulp hauler, and often could be found working in his junk yard loading and hauling junk cars.

He was an accomplished welder and mechanic. He could build or fix just about anything. He built several skidders and race cars. In the early 1960s, he raced his No. 133 at Oxford Plains Speedway. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was perhaps best known for his storytelling.

He is survived by his companion and life partner of 32 years, Susan Tracy of Livermore Falls; his children, Jeffrey Meserve of Florida and his son, Dakota Jonathan Meserve of Rumford, Diane Dunn, and her husband, James and their children, Kayla, Kristen and Marcus of Glenburn, Tonja-Sue Meserve, and her companion, Scott, of Old Town, her sons, Nathan and Jacob St. Laurent of Greene; his former spouse, Ruth Jewell, and her husband, Roland, of Indian Island; Sue Tracy’s children, Steve Tracy, and his companion, Rhonda Harris, of Chesterville, Melissa Russell, and her husband, Nate, of Turner, Peggy Tracy, and her companion, Wesley Wright and their son, Devin Wright of Livermore Falls, Larry K. Dustin, and his wife, Tina and her son, James McLamb and his daughter, Loryanna Tracy, all of Jay; a granddaughter, Ledesta Tracy of Livermore; his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Conant, and her husband, Duane, of Canton; a niece; and nephew.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a stepson, Michael Tracy.

He’ll be missed at his twice daily coffee stops at Pike’s with special friend, Brent Beaulieu.
