TOPSHAM – Zach Ward and Matt Nyholm each tallied three goals apiece to lead No. 5 Edward Little to an 8-5 triumph over No. 4 Mt. Ararat in the Eastern Class A quarterfinals of the boys’ lacrosse playoffs.

Bryan Campbell added two goals and a pair of assists for the Eddies (6-7). Jake Norton had a strong game defensively, while goalie Derek Racine stopped 10 shots to preserve the win.

Zack Drehobl scored twice, while Dale Morgan, Chris Orr, and Nick Dempsey also scored for Mt. Ararat.

Baseball

Georges Valley 8, Telstar 1

BETHEL – Phil Bertocci took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a hit, leading Georges Valley to an 8-1 victory over Telstar in the preliminary round of the Western Class C baseball playoffs Wednesday.

Bertocci finished with a one-hitter and struck out eight batters. Nick Lemieux hit a two-run single in the second for the Buccaneers (8-8).

Kevin Gallagher had the lone Telstar (7-9) hit, a groundball down the third-base line. The Rebels’ lone run was unearned.
