NORWAY – G. Freeman Hall, 91, of Norway died Wednesday, June 6, at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, with his family by his side.
He was born in Norway on June 9, 1915, the son of Freeman A. and Ida McAllister Hall. He graduated from Norway High School in 1934. He was an outstanding all-round athlete and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. He was unable to pursue this due to an injury.
He attended the Maine School of Commerce. He had been employed at Norway Savings Bank for 41 years, retiring in 1987 as president and trustee.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Oxford Lodge 18 AF & AM, Second Congregational Church of Norway, The Weary Club, Norway Country Club and Trustee of the Sanborn Shoe Corporation of Norway for many years.
He was an avid harness racing fan and Red Sox fan. He was a hunter, a fisherman and an outdoorsman. He was well traveled, spending many winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He married Virginia Holden on Jan. 25, 1936. She passed away on Aug. 7, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Raymond of Norway; three grandchildren, Audrey Raymond, and her companion, Anthony Criscitelli, of Mechanic Falls, Jeffrey Raymond, and his wife, Lorri, of Harrison and Stacey Raymond, and her fiancé, Hank Dresser, of Harrison; and four great-grandchildren, Devon Freeman Richards of Portland, Danielle Richards of South Paris, Coralee Foster of San Diego, Calif., and Tyler Raymond of Windham.
