AUBURN – Lisa Patton of Livermore Falls has been named the Central Maine Community College Student of the Year. She was introduced at an Augusta ceremony by Dean of Student Services Randall Lee, who cited her determination, persistence and contributions to the college and her community.

A student in the early childhood education program who is graduating this month, Patton has earned highest honors while excelling academically in all her classes.

She was lauded by her college writing instructor as “one of the three best writing students I have had in nine years.”

Patton was also inducted last month as a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community college students.

Patton was active with the Lakeside Players, the student theater group. In addition to her campus activities, she has served as a “birth doula,” providing physical and emotional support to mothers before, during and after childbirth. In her spare time she enjoys woodworking, gardening, cross-country skiing and sewing.

Patton, who lives in Livermore Falls with her husband and three daughters, hopes to work for Head Start as a teacher in a center or in the home-based program.
