CANTON, Ohio – Jeannine Gauvin Thompson, 74, died peacefully Saturday evening, June 2, following an extended illness. She was surrounded by loved ones at Manor Care Nursing Home in Canton, Ohio.
She was born March 19, 1933, to the late Odilon Gauvin and Regina Gagnon Gauvin in Sherbrooke, and raised in Magog, Quebec, Canada.
In September 1947, Jeannine moved with her family to Lewiston, where she graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1951.
She married John R. Thompson Sr. on Aug. 5, 1954.
A lover of literature, the arts and travel, Jeannine enjoyed listening to music, playing piano, and the study of numerous languages and cultures. She fondly recalled her travels throughout Europe and the fulfillment of her dream to visit the Holy Land.
She is survived by daughters, Diane (Bob) Schiffbauer of Westerville, Ohio, Francine (Brian) Lee of Steubenville, Ohio, Kathleen (Scot) Ferguson of Pell Lake, Wis., and Sylvia Thompson of Burbank, Calif.; sons, John (Jeaninne) Thompson of Avondale, Pa., and Michael (Kimberly) Thompson of Canton, Ohio; sister, Elizabeth (Noel) Morrell of Lewiston; nieces, Maureen (Jason) Withee of Turner, and Michelle Eoff of Cypress, Calif.; sister-in-law, Virginia (Darling) Lytch of Los Alamitos, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, Justin, Joseph and Jeremy Thompson, Sara and Anna Schiffbauer, Nicole, Riley and Stephen Rose, Christiana and Joseph Lee, Michael, Jessica and Christian Thompson, and Makenzie and Audra Ferguson; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; and countless devoted friends.
Jeannine was predeceased by her husband, John R. Thompson Sr.; her parents, Odilon and Regina Gauvin; and a brother, Robert Gauvin.
