OES program
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
The Star Point stations will be honored. A special program will be presented by Arlene Jones, Grand Adah; Nancy Fuller, Grand Ruth; Ruth Holden, Grand Esther; Josephine Dupal, Grand Martha; and Delora Farrington, Grand Electa.
The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.
Talk on dogs
SABATTUS – Dr. Jan Kippax will present a talk on how to handle dog bites titled “Dog Bites and Dog Bites” at the Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club meeting on Thursday, June 14.
The meeting, free and open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Sabattus Town Hall, Route 9. Light refreshments will be served. The club serves the local area and welcomes dog fanciers to attend meetings, learn how to care, train and protect their family pet. For more information, call 777-1928 or e-mail [email protected].
Tables available
NEW GLOUCESTER – The Amvets Auxiliary Post 6, Route 100, will hold its annual flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Tables are $15 each. To reserve a table, call Joyce Wotherspoon at 926-4693 or Cheryl Greene at 998-2157. The cut-off date for reservations is July 24.
Seniors to meet
AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, 426 Washington St. The directors will meet at 10 a.m.
There will be a food sale and members are reminded to include their homebaked items and vegetables. Cash donations are also acceptable. There will be no raffle table. Tickets ($3) will be on sale June 13 and 27 for the annual cookout July 11. Visitors are welcome to all meetings and/or events, and membership is welcome.
There were 51 members present at the May 23 meeting when President Merry Strout presided. A memorial service was held prior to the meeting for members who had died during the past year, with Lucy Cowles in charge assisted by Kaye Koss, Eleanor Jewell, Shirley Hawkins, and Caroline Chapman. At the conclusion of the service Ralph Lashua sang a song with his guitar accompaniment.
Following the service, Chairwoman Evelyn Sawin reported that her trip on the 54-passenger bus to Foster’s Clam Bake in York on June 22 was filled but she would take reservations should there be cancellations, if anyone is interested.
Doris Michael, co-chairwoman at First Auburn Senior Citizens, said she has a trip to the Carousel at Boothbay on Aug. 7 should anyone wish to make that trip, and she has other trips continuing through to 2008 for anyone wanting to make reservations. Those interested may see Michael at Robin Dow meetings, First Auburn meetings or phone her at 782-6962.
May birthdays were recognized. Attendance prize winners were Penny Rossignol and Margaret Merrill; pot of gold, Lorraine Marcous, Alwin Strout and Caroline Chapman. At the conclusion of the meeting and after a bag lunch members played bingo.
School reunion
FREEPORT – The Freeport High School reunion will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the school gym. Admission is free. The reunion is for anyone who ever attended, taught or coached at Freeport High School. For more information, call Jerri Shorey at 829-6128.
Bridge winners
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on June 5 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Linda Leotsakos and Janet Arey; third, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau.
Flight B winners were: first, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Doug and Betty Sise. Winners in Flight C were Doug and Betty Sise.
East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Jeanine Kivus; second, Richard Balian and Nancy Farmer; third, Luke Merry and Michael Quinn. Flight B winners were Richard Balian and Nancy Farmer. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the center.
The club also met on June 6 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Misha Tomic and Lucille Theriault; third, David Lock and Jeanine Kivus; fourth, Paul Barber and Luke Merry.
Flight B winners were: tied at first, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner with Richard Balian and Marta Clements. Another game will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Schooner Estates. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
