I am responding to the front page story about a child who was not allowed to walk with other graduates because of unfinished work. (June 2)
I think it’s a crying shame those students aren’t notified sooner in order to graduate with their class. What kind of rule is it that doesn’t give seniors a chance to finish what they need in order to graduate? Or to tell them exactly what they need to do in order to graduate?
I understand that they need to learn to be responsible adults, and we need to teach them that, but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that children go through at home which cause them emotional turmoil, and it’s difficult for them to concentrate on what they need to do.
But youngsters have a way of keeping troubles all inside. Believe me, I was one of them.
No one cared enough to even try to find out what was wrong, which leads me to wonder just what kind of administrators there are in this school? Are they administrators of the people or the law? Are they just collecting their paycheck, and go home at the end of the week and never give these kids a thought?
What kind of administration ignores a child’s pain in order to save the policy?
My older brother says, “The people were not created for the laws, but the laws were created for people.”
