RUMFORD – Russell S. “Rocky” Lane, 74, died Saturday, June 9, at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of the Ridge Road in West Peru.
Born in Rumford on July 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Elmer and Mary (Richardson) Lane.
He was a 1950 graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford.
He worked for Oxford Paper Co. and Mead Paper on the No. 7 paper machine and also in communications.
Russell was a member of King Hiram Lodge No. 57 AF & AM.
He and his wife owned and operated Lane’s Greenhouse for more than 35 years. He loved nature, trains, history and antique engines. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and making wooden toys, which he and his wife sold at craft fairs. They enjoyed their camp at Small Point.
He was married in West Peru on Nov. 28, 1952, to Elizabeth Hunt, who survives of Peru. Other survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lane of West Peru, and Sandra Kaynor and her husband, Peter, of West Peru; a brother, Roger Lane of West Peru; Jonathan, Joshua and Jessica Lyons, whom he considered his grandchildren; his dogs, Violet Rose and Sweet Pea; and the Kaynor four-legged grandchildren, especially Forrest Kaynor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Lane.
