AUBURN – Vito L. Coulombe Sr., 83, of Dragoon Road in Rumford, died Monday, June 11, at the Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Canada on June 10, 1924, a son of Joseph and Alma (Belanger) Coulombe. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded numerous medals for bravery and valor.

He married Marjorie Alice Gautreau, the love of his life, on June 7, 1944, and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. She passed away on Dec. 29, 2003.

He was a life-long employee of the Rumford paper mill.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Delamater of Rumford; sons, Robert Coulombe, and wife, Cindy, of Winthrop, David Coulombe of Rumford, Vito Coulombe Jr., and wife, Melody, of Rumford, Michael Coulombe, and wife, Rae Jean, of Peru and Chester Coulombe, and wife, Charlotte, of Wayne; daughter-in-law, Cindie Coulombe of Dixfield; a sister, Colombe Bourgoine of Rumford; nine grandchildren, Heith, Brianna, Trinity, Gerard, Brittany, Jacob, Andrew, Samantha and Rose; and six great-grandchildren, D.J., Kaitlyn, Levi, Aurora, Trevor and Bryce.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Susan Rose; a son, Gerard Coulombe; brothers, Fernando, Gerard and Clement Coulombe; and sisters, Julie and Cecile.

The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Melody Coulombe for opening her heart and home and making Dad’s last months happy and comfortable. They also wish to thank the Hospice House in Auburn and the Veterans’ Home in South Paris for the wonderful care given to him.
