ITHACA, N.Y. – E. Alberta “Betty” Lloyd, 91, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 9. She was formerly a resident of Livermore Falls and recently of Brooktondale, N.Y., before becoming a resident at Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home in Ithaca, N.Y.
She was born April 20, 1916, in Portland, a daughter of the late Jens and Ethel (Skillings) Bruns. “Betty” attended Portland schools in Maine, and was employed in a tea house when on Feb. 1, 1937, was married to William E. Lloyd.
They purchased a farm in East Livermore in 1943, where they resided until 1988. Occupying a large farmhouse, she always had a house full of family and boarders who enjoyed her hospitality and the warmth of country living.
In her later years, she worked at Wilson’s Department Store. She came to her personal faith in Christ in 1965 while attending Circle ” L” Camp in East Livermore, an event that inspired her to become instrumental, with her husband, in starting what is now Cornerstone Baptist Church in North Jay.
After the death of Bill in 1993, she eventually relocated to Kittery in 1997, before coming to Brooktondale, N.Y., where she made her home with her son and family. Her life was always focused around her family and the church.
Survivors include her sons, the Rev. William (Joyce) Lloyd of Viroqua, Wis., and the Rev. Richard (Elizabeth) Lloyd of Brooktondale; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy Crosby, Mildred Venable and Everett and Pete Bruns; and a granddaughter, Rebekah Lloyd.
