FARMINGTON – Sixty Mt. Abram High School seniors from the graduating class of 2007 participated in a day of college transition activities at the University of Maine at Farmington on May 24.

Made possible by grants from the Melmac Education Foundation and the town of Carrabassett Valley, the day of activities included workshops and seminars on topics ranging from financial literacy to the differences between high school and college, with a closing discussion by a panel of Mt. Abram alumni.

Workshops were conducted by the UMF Center for Human Development, Franklin Somerset Federal Credit Union and the Maine Career Center.

The events were part of Mt. Abram’s efforts to increase the number of students going on to college and post-secondary education.

Dr. Brandon Lagana, director of admissions at UMF, was the keynote speaker during dinner at the Granary Restaurant and spoke about navigating the journey from high school to a successful career.
