FARMINGTON – Workers from Nichols Welding of Wilton retrofitted a police dog cage to fit in the back of Deputy David Rackliffe’s new cruiser, a Ford Expedition, for his dog, Odin.
The cage had been in a Crown Victoria and a lot of work was needed to get it to fit properly in the larger vehicle, Franklin County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Raymond Meldrum said.
He estimated that it cost $600 to $800, possibly more, for the job because he believes it took two people and at least eight hours of work to the get the job done. “It fits like a glove,” Meldrum said.
The county had planned to pay for the job, Meldrum said, but when it was done a representative from Nichols Welding told officials the cost was taken care of. The company donated the work, he said.
