WILTON – Theft of beer and food at Rick’s Market on Wednesday led to the arrest of cousins Robert Begin Jr., 21, and Roger Begin, 24, both of Jay, Officer Blaine Rackliff said Friday night.
Chief Dennis Brown said Rackliff responded to the market on Depot Street for a complaint of theft and determined the men left on foot headed toward Jay on the railroad trail. He found them and recovered the items.
Robert Begin was issued a summons charging theft because, “He was the one that was reported as stealing the items,” Rackliffe said Friday night.
The cousins were arrested by Jay police officer Aaron Gordon on a charge of violation of condition of release. Robert Begin was arrested in March on a warrant alleging unpaid fines and was summoned on one count of furnishing a place for a minor to consume alcohol, Brown said.
Roger Begin was also arrested in March on a violation of bail conditions for a previous operating under the influence charge and was summoned on charges of felony aggravated furnishing marijuana and misdemeanor furnishing liquor to a minor, the chief said.
The summonses came after a New Vineyard teenager and her mother went to Jay police in reference to drinking and smoking marijuana at a residence on Begin Road in Jay.
