Buckfield performers Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz, who have traveled the globe this past year setting off Mentos and Diet Coke fountains, didn’t win Thursday night at the 34th annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Emmy Awards in Hollywood.
Their category – outstanding broadband variety program – was taken by “It’s JerryTime!” The blog and video site by Ozone Inc. features a googly-eyed guy named Jerry.
The broadband awards were given out a day before the more traditional Emmy Awards were presented Friday.
Grobe and Voltz have become internationally known for putting 500 Mentos into 101 bottles of Diet Coke, choreographing the volcanic explosions and setting the whole thing to music.
Their three-minute Internet video, which is filled with dynamic fizzy fountains and some 20-foot geysers, made Grobe and Voltz celebrities. More than 3 million people have downloaded the whimsical video since it landed on the Web, and the men have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the “Late Show with David Letterman” and the “Today” show.
